Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan will re-launch her free Music in the Park series with a jazz concert that will feature piano legend George Tandy Sr. and celebrity saxophonist Jesse Jones, Jr. The Music in the Park event will be held at 6:30 p.m., on Friday, December 7, 2012, at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex Amphitheater, 3000 N.W. 199 Street, in Miami Gardens.
“When I think about the history of jazz music, it is only fitting that we host a free concert highlighting this treasured cultural sound,” said Commissioner Jordan. “We are fortunate to have several jazz greats living in District 1, and we have included them in our December 7th line-up, as well as our May 3rd event.”
In addition to the veteran jazz artists, Florida Memorial University’s Jazz Band will perform. That group is headed by the legendary Melton Mustafa, who is the director of Jazz Studies at FMU.
Sponsors for the December 7th Music in the Park jazz concert include the Sunshine Jazz Organization, Miami-Dade Parks Foundation, Calder Casino and Race Course, Miami Dolphins, Marlins, Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council, and the City of Miami Gardens.
