On Wednesday, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan will identify five needy families who are in need of funds for food, housing expenses and other daily expenditures. The gifts, which have been donated from various companies, will be given to the families on Wednesday, December 19, beginning at 10 a.m., at the District 1 office located at 2780 N.W. 167 Street, in Miami Gardens.
“Although the economy is rebounding, there are still many people in need of assistance,” said Commissioner Jordan. “Hopefully, these funds will go a long way during this Holiday Season.”
Each family will receive a $500 gift card, a Christmas food basket, a bicycle, toys, and tickets to Santa’s Enchanted Forest.
On Thursday, December 20, 2012, at 10 a.m., Commissioner Jordan will transform into Santa and present gifts to children at the Ophelia Brown Head Start Center, 16405 N.W. 25 Avenue. Beginning at 12:45 p.m., Commissioner Jordan will distribute gifts again to children at North County Head Start, 3201 N.W. 207 Street.
“This is my favorite time of year because I get to see the smiles on these kids’ faces,” said Commissioner Jordan. “During this season of giving, it really is ‘better to give than to receive.’”
