Back-to-Back State 6A Basketball Champions to be honored by Commissioner Jordan
Miami Norland Senior High School 6A Boys Basketball Team ventured to Lakeland, Florida for the state playoffs and won their second consecutive championship this year. For their accomplishment, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara J. Jordan will honor the coaches and team members at 9 a.m., on Tuesday, April 2, in the Commission Chamber of the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 N.W. 1 Street, in Miami.
“This is beginning to be a regular occurrence,” said Commissioner Jordan, gloating about the team from her District. “I am very proud of these young men and their back-to-back win. This country needs to take note that we have some really talented athletes at this school. I am hopeful that the seniors on the team will be recruited to attend college.”
According to school officials, the Norland Vikings are accustomed to winning state championships. Since 2002, the boys’ basketball team has won four state championships. The girls’ basketball team has won two state championships, and the football team has won two state championships as well.
“So often, we only congratulate the players and their coaches,” said Commissioner Jordan. “But today, I’d like to congratulate the parents and mentors of these young men because their drive to excel, more than likely, started at home.”
