MIAMI GARDENS – About 450 residents turned out on February 13 to attend Miami-Dade County Commissioner Barbara Jordan’s 12th annual Valentine’s Day Dance for Seniors at Grace Community Church in Miami Gardens.
Love was in the air as many partygoers dressed in all-white attire, which was the official theme of the night. Partygoers also wore festive red-and-white ensembles in honor of the annual Valentine’s Day celebration in District 1. Some seniors carried canes or walkers, but that didn’t keep them from cutting a rug on the dance floor.
“This event grew from 50 attendees in the beginning to over 400 this year,” Commissioner Jordan said. “Our seniors love coming here every year because they get to kick back and relax and have some well-deserved fun.”
The seniors danced the night away to old-school tunes performed by the local group Pocket Change. The Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide and Wobble were fan favorites. Miami Gardens Super Soul Steppers treated the audience to a line-dancing performance to songs by Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake. Attendees dined on baked chicken, yellow rice, green beans and lemon and chocolate cake. The event also featured a raffle with gifts totaling over $1,000.
The 2018 Valentine’s Day Dance for Seniors was sponsored by Sedano’s Supermarkets, Cpf Investment Group, El Dorado Furniture, Bilzin Sumberg, Llorente & Heckler, LSN Partners, Holland & Night, FP&L, Calder Casino, The Tax Drz, and World Waste Recycling.
