Commissioner Jean Monestime to be guest of honor at Seniors Are First Black History Month event

Commissioner Jean Monestime will be the guest of honor at the Seniors Are First Black History Month event on Monday, February 28, 2011. The event, which features guest speakers and live entertainment, will be held at the Miami Beach Public Library, 227 22nd Street in Miami Beach, starting at 11:30 a.m. Commissioner Monestime will be recognized for being the first Haitian-American elected to the Miami-Dade County Commission.

Seniors Are First, Inc. is a non-profit organization which concentrates on improving the quality of life for seniors living in Miami Beach. Its members meet regularly, and the seniors remain active in their community by attending social functions and volunteering. The oldest member is 96.
