'You Can Go to College' Series Concludes With Workshop and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at University of Miami
MIAMI, FL – Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, the University of Miami School of Education and Human Development and College Summit will conclude the popular “You Can Go to College” series with a final workshop and awards ceremony honoring outstanding students on Thursday, May 16th, at the University of Miami Fieldhouse, 1245 Dauer Drive in Coral Gables from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
This is the capstone event to Commissioner Monestime’s college workshop series which began in 2012 with the goal of educating students and parents about the process of getting into college and succeeding in higher education. The workshops, which were held in District 2, covered such topics as “Getting to College” and “Paying for College.” Workshop participants met with college admissions advisors, financial aid officers, student mentors and inspirational college graduates. The final workshop is titled “Transitioning to College.”
The Darden and Deloitte Awards Ceremony on Thursday will be presented by College Summit. The “You Can Go to College” series is a partnership between Commissioner Monestime, the University of Miami School of Education and Human Development, the University of Miami Center for Latin American Studies and College Summit. The workshop series is sponsored by a grant from the Deutsche Bank of Americas Foundation.
“This series of workshops was a tremendous success and it’s only fitting that the final event highlights the achievement of outstanding students,” Commissioner Monestime said. “My goal with this workshop series was to give students and parents the tools they need to successfully and confidently navigate the college admissions process.”
