Commissioner Jean Monestime Hosts Second Annual Haitian History Bee
(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Haitian history will come alive on Saturday, May 18, 2013, as Miami-Dade County Public School students showcase their knowledge about the rich cultural legacy of Haiti during the Second Annual Haitian Heritage Cultural Month History Bee, sponsored by Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2.
The Haitian History Bee and Young Artist Challenge takes place at the Little Haiti Cultural Center, 212 NE 59th Terrace, Miami, Fl. Other sponsors of the event include FANM Ayisien Nan Myiami, Inc., the Miami Dolphins and Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
“We received an outstanding response from participants in last year’s Haitian History Bee. This has become one of the most popular events during Haitian Heritage Cultural Month,” Commissioner Jean Monestime said.
New to this year’s program is the Young Artist Challenge in which youth of all ages will present original art to express their ideas about Haitian history.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the contributions that Haitians have made to our country and our world,” Commissioner Monestime said. “The history of the Haitian people is rich and should be shared and cherished by everyone.”
