MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime will honor the memory of a 6-year-old victim of gun violence at a street-sign unveiling ceremony on Thursday, July 27 at 11 a.m. to rename Northwest 104th Street between 11th and 12th avenues as King Carter Street.

King Carter was shot dead on 104th Street near his home on Feb. 20, 2016 when he was caught in the crossfire of a shooting.

“King Carter is a symbol of the need to stop the epidemic of gun violence,” said Commissioner Monestime, who sponsored the July 6 resolution approving the street renaming. “As we honor this precious young child’s memory, we must dedicate ourselves to making our communities safe for our children.”
