(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Jean Monestime attended the groundbreaking of the Arcola Lakes Head Start Center in his district on Wednesday, March 2, 2011. The future site of the Lillie Williams Center, named after a pioneer of the community, will be located at 770 NW 83rd Street.
Head Start is a national program that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to children from low-income families. The program will be open to children up to age 5 and provide education and care. The "green" facility, which will be over 16,000 square feet and LEED certified, will serve about 120 students. It is slated for its grand opening in 2012.
"Branching out the Head Start Centers in Miami-Dade will offer more children the opportunity of an excellent education, regardless of their families' economic backgrounds," said Commissioner Monestime
