(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Jean Monestime and Florida Power & Light (FPL) partnered together on Thursday, March 17, 2011, to offer 15 district residents a free Home Energy Makeover. Representatives from both the commissioner’s office and FPL visited pre-selected homes from District 2 to install energy-saving items, including efficient light bulbs, air conditioning filters, water-saving shower heads, refrigerator thermometers, and more. The FPL Home Energy Makeover team qualified some of the homes for other upgrades, including FPL’s On Call program, ceiling insulation and repairs to leaky air conditioning ducts.
According to FPL, families can save up to 25 percent a year on their electric bills by implementing the upgrades included in the energy makeover. The homeowners chosen for the Home Energy Makeover were selected through an application process through the commissioner’s office.
“It is amazing how savings can add up by just doing a few simple household upgrades, like using energy-efficient light bulbs,” said Commissioner Monestime. “Thanks to FPL, these families now have the tools and knowledge they need to save our resources while saving money.”
