Statement from Commissioner Jean Monestime on shootings at West Little River Park

In light of the shooting that occurred at West Little River Park on Tuesday evening, Commissioner Jean Monestime, whose district includes the park, is releasing the following statement:

"The violence that took place at West Little River Park is deplorable and unacceptable. Our parks are meant to be a safe haven for youths to enjoy recreational activities. The fact that four innocent children were injured in a hail of bullets during football practice is completely senseless. The only silver lining in this tragic situation is that there was no loss of life, and for that I am grateful.

"I urge the community to come together and work with our law enforcement to find the person or persons who committed this crime. If you have any information, please call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. The call is completely anonymous.

"We must protect our children by taking a stand against violence in our community. We must get rid of those criminal elements within our neighborhoods."
