Commissioner Jean Monestime hosts kick-off of Seniors Program at Gwen Cherry Park

Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, and the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department, together with partners Urban Strategies, Jesse Trice Community Health Center, and the Gwen Cherry Park Foundation kicked off the "Energetic and Engaged" Seniors Program at Gwen Cherry Park on Monday, September 17, 2012.

More than 100 residents age 55 and older participated in the kick-off celebration of the senior program. The senior program at Gwen Cherry Park is now open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program features a walk-with-ease component, computer lessons, arts and crafts and refreshments.

"The 'Energetic and Engaged' Seniors Program is part of my commitment to provide quality programming and services to our seniors," Commissioner Monestime said.

This program is a part of Commissioner Monestime's ongoing work for seniors in District 2.

"Our seniors have invested so much in this community over the years. And for that the entire community is thankful," Commissioner Monestime said. "This community owes our seniors debt of gratitude. And I want to do everything I can to ensure that their needs are met.

"It's a great opportunity for area seniors to have fun, mingle and experience some of the park's new recreational programs designed to help seniors become more active and fit," Commissioner Monestime said.
