Commissioner Jean Monestime Applauds Work of U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson on Her Push for Immigration Reform

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, commends U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson for her continued leadership on the issue of comprehensive immigration reform and for organizing a forum on the subject in North Miami on Monday, May 13, 2013.

“Representative Wilson is one of our community’s strongest advocates in Washington. She has worked tirelessly to ensure that any discussion of comprehensive immigration reform include changing America’s policy toward Hispanics, Haitians and people from the Caribbean. I commend her for her work on this issue,” said Commissioner Monestime. “Immigration reform is the human rights issue of our generation.”

On Monday, Rep. Wilson organized an immigration forum at the Haitian Evangelical Church in District 2 which featured several members of the U.S. House of Representatives including U.S. Reps. Luis Gutierrez (Illinois), Yvette Clarke (New York), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas) and Marc Veasey (Texas).

“I salute the members of the U.S. House who came to District 2 to discuss this important issue and I thank them for their support of comprehensive immigration reform,” Commissioner Monestime said.
