Commissioner Jean Monestime Delivers Book Bags During Community Festival

MIAMI, FL – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, continued his efforts to prepare students for the upcoming school year by delivering hundreds of book bags to youth during his Community Festival at Gwen Cherry Park on Saturday, August 10, 2013.

The Community Festival featured free health screenings for residents, back-to-school physicals for students, line dancing, a Movie Night for children and a Jazz Concert for adults.

“Education provides the foundation for a successful life,” Commissioner Monestime said. “I want to ensure that students in District 2 have the tools they need to do their very best in school.”

A free legal clinic was also hosted by the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women’s Lawyers Association where residents learned about landlord/tenant, foreclosure and tax issues. The State Attorney’s Office also provided information on expungement, probate, divorce and child support.

The Community Festival was held in collaboration with Urban Strategies, Miami-Dade Parks, and the Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association.
