Miami-Dade County to rename Jackson North Medical Center Intensive Care Unit wing as ''The Sandra A. Sears Surgical Center''

(Miami-Dade, Florida) -  The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution co-sponsored by Commissioners Jean Monestime, Barbara J. Jordan and Sally Heyman to rename the Public Health Trust’s Jackson North Medical Center Intensive Care Unit wing ''The Sandra A. Sears Surgical Center.''

Ms. Sandra A. Sears made a direct and significant contribution to the Public Health Trust of Miami-Dade County for over 39 years before she retired in June, 2014. Ms. Sears dedicated herself to improving the delivery of healthcare to all residents of Miami-Dade County. She has led efforts to bring affordable care to underserved neighborhoods.

Ms. Sears joined the Public Health Trust in 1975 as an assistant administrator for the Jackson Health System, and during her years at the Jackson Health System, she served as an administrator and Division Director of Emergency Services, Director of Community Health Services, Senior Vice President of Ambulatory Services and Community Health and as Chief Administrative Officer of Jackson North Medical Center.

“It is a true honor to be able to celebrate the life of Ms. Sears,” said Commissioner Monestime. “She has served the community by bringing primary-care services at an affordable price for those who need it most in our community.”
