Chairman Monestime's book bag giveaways prepare hundreds of students for school

(MIAMI-DADE, FL) – Hundreds of District 2 students received new book bags filled with school supplies at two events presented by Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime and the Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department over the weekend.

“I thank our sponsors, partners and all participants for helping make these two events so successful,” said Chairman Monestime. “I am elated that so many District 2 students are now ready for a fantastic 2015-2016 school year.”

In addition to preparing children for the upcoming school year, the community festivals and book bag giveaways held at Gwen Cherry Park on Saturday, Aug. 15 and Oak Grove Park on Sunday, Aug. 16 featured a food bag distribution by Feeding South Florida, health and vision screenings by Walmart, a bounce house, entertainment, hot dogs, popcorn and more.
