(MIAMI-DADE, FL) – A new housing community in District 2 is providing affordable housing and easy access to public transportation for Miami-Dade County residents while contributing to the revitalization of the 79th Street corridor.

The attractive eight-story Northside Transit Village, which is adjacent to Northside Metrorail Station, held its grand opening ceremony on Sept. 9, with 100 new apartment units coming online as part of Phase 1 of the development.

“This project is the latest chapter in the ongoing urban renaissance taking place along the 79th Street corridor, and it will provide residents with convenient transit access to major employment, medical, entertainment and retail centers around Miami-Dade County,” said Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime, who participated in the grand opening and has long championed the project. “From the ongoing renovation of the Northside Shopping Center to the opening of the new Walmart to the completion of the Regency Pointe affordable housing complex to the road improvements being done by FDOT to the powerful mural painted on One United Bank, we all can see the transformation of 79th Street.”

Northside Transit Village features a host of amenities for residents, including a community room, fitness center, computer lab, and tot lot. Three more phases of the project are anticipated to open over the next four years, bringing the total number of apartment units to 438. The new housing complex represents a public-private partnership between Miami-Dade County and the developer. The County’s Housing Finance Authority issued mortgage revenue bonds for its construction, to be paid back by the developer.

In addition to its easy access to Metrorail, Northside Transit Village is served by Metrobus routes 12, 21, 32, L, and the 79th Street MAX.
