Chairman Monestime encourages Dade Medical College students to contact Miami-Dade Office of Consumer Protection

(MIAMI-DADE, FL) – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime is encouraging the more than 2,000 students affected by the sudden closure of Dade Medical College to obtain assistance through the Miami-Dade County Office of Consumer Protection.

Dade Medical College announced on Oct. 30 that all six of its campuses, as well as both campuses of its affiliate school University of Southernmost Florida, would be closing at the end of the day.

“My heart goes out to these students; I can understand their frustration and desperation given the circumstances,” said Chairman Monestime, who recently sponsored the Deceptive Trade Practices Ordinance, which strengthened the County’s capacity to provide assistance in such cases. “The county’s Office of Consumer Protection and 3-1-1 Answer Center are aware of the situation and prepared to assist. I urge affected students to contact them.”

Affected students should call 786-469-2300 or visit the Office of Consumer Protection at 601 NW 1st Court, 18th Floor.
