MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commission Chairman Jean Monestime received a very special birthday greeting from famed songstress Nicole Henry at the Feb. 17 County Commission meeting. The award-winning artist regaled Chairman Monestime and the audience with a soulful rendition of “Happy Birthday” that drew the chamber’s rousing applause.

Henry had been invited to the meeting to accept a proclamation from Chairman Monestime recognizing her achievements in celebration of Black History Month.

“Ms. Henry’s passionate, soulful voice and heartfelt charisma has earned her many awards and filled her current hometown of Miami with great pride,” Chairman Monestime said.

Henry, a Pennsylvania native and University of Miami graduate, won the 2013 Soul Train Award for best traditional jazz performance and has three Top 10 U.S. Billboard and HMV Japan jazz albums to her credit.
