Chairman Jean Monestime's statement on the worst mass shooting in U.S. history

MIAMI-DADE – My heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of all those impacted in today's mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.

I am extremely saddened by this tragedy and join the many voices around the nation who have condemned this senseless act of violence against Orlando's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, our state and our nation.

I thank the brave police officers, firefighters, and good Samaritans who responded to this mass casualty situation and I offer my support to City of Orlando elected officials during these very difficult times.

While law enforcement conducts the investigation, let's continue to pray for the injured who are in hospitals fighting for their lives and for all the family members who are mourning.

In solidarity with all those grieving in Orlando and around the country, please join me at a candlelight vigil that will take place tonight at 7 p.m. at SoundScape Park, located at 400 17th Street in Miami Beach.
