Since my appointment by the late Governor Lawton Chiles in 1998 and winning re-election in 2002, I have been busy making District 2 a premier location for new job opportunities, more business investments and affordable housing.

As Chairman of the Community Empowerment & Economic Development Committee, I have worked with my fellow committee members to sponsor legislation that makes a difference in Miami-Dade County.  We have come a long way and have sparked new interest and pride in our community.

A challenge we are aggressively tackling and overcoming is the rebuilding of our community’s antiquated infrastructure.  Our outdated drainage system needs upgrading to better mitigate flooding problems facing our residents and local businesses.  These capital improvements will also make our area more appealing to new businesses relocating to Miami-Dade County.

My staff and I are continuously implementing new solutions to your requests for better housing, more accessible health care and safer neighborhoods.  I have received your input and will strive to make your wishes for a better community a reality.  Through effective legislation, exceptional customer service and our continued partnership, I am confident we will build a prosperous community.
