Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson awards local student winner of “Every Drop Counts” poster contest

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson presented an award to Moise D. Pierre of Hurbert O. Sibley Elementary, one of 13 winning students of the Miami-Dade Water-Use Efficiency Program’s (WUEP) “Every Drop Counts” poster contest to promote water conservation. One student from each of Miami-Dade’s 13 districts was selected as a winner and was honored at the County Commissioner meeting on Tuesday, May 5, 2009. Moise was the winner from Commissioner Edmonson’s district.

The "Every Drop Counts" Poster Contest, which was open to all elementary school-age children (grades K through 5) in Miami-Dade County, received more than 1,000 entries from students. The success of the contest is attributed in part to the introduction of a new children’s mascot, “D-rop”, who challenges them to save water … one drop at a time.

"I'm very proud of Moise D. Pierre and all the children who participated in the contest," Commissioner Edmonson said. "It is very important that our children learn early about the importance of conserving our natural resources and that each of us has contributions to make."

(L-R) Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson, Moise D. Pierre, his proud mother, and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez.
