(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson made sure seniors in her district got a jump start on hurricane preparations. On July 1, 2009, Commissioner Edmonson visited several homes in her district, distributing hurricane kits to residents in need. Each kit contained portable fans, nonperishable food, bottled water, and more.
Commissioner Edmonson was joined by Hattie Williams of Communities United in passing out the kits.
“It’s vital, especially during hurricane season, that we look out for one another in our community,” said Commissioner Edmonson. “These hurricane kits should give some of our District 3 seniors the basic tools they need to prepare in the event of a major natural disaster.”
According to forecasters from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, there is a 70 percent chance of having nine to 14 named storms this hurricane season, of which four to seven could become hurricanes, including one to three major hurricanes (Category 3, 4 or 5).
