Dominican history exhibit opens during Black History Month at County Hall

Vice Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson (right) joined Dr. Amada Vargas, Executive Director of Latinos United, at the opening of Black History Month exhibit at the Stephen P. Clark Center in Downtown Miami on February 4. Dr. Vargas and other Dominican Americans worked with the Black Affairs Advisory Board in inaugurating the exhibit, which included a history of the Dominican Republic and the Dominican community in Miami-Dade County. The group also launched celebrations marking the 167th anniversary of the Dominican Republic independence.

"This is an occasion to honor the rich history and culture of the Dominican Republic and the many accomplishments of the Dominican people," said Vice Chairwoman Edmonson. "I salute Dr. Amada Vargas, Latinos Unidos and my Dominican friends - especially those in my district's Allapattah neighborhood - on this very important day."
