The Beacon to provide new affordable housing in District 3's Overtown

On March 31, 2011, Vice Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson, commissioner for District 3, joined the crew of BJ & K Construction at the topping-off party for The Beacon, an affordable housing project geared to families to be completed in summer 2011 by Carlisle Development in Overtown. Approximately 34 percent of the project’s workforce is made up of District 3 residents. Under this brand new roof there will soon be 90 two- and three-bedroom units and a multi-functional community center. Residents at the Beacon will also be able to take advantage of home ownership possibilities, job training classes, nutrition seminars, a computer lab and other extras.

The Beacon is located at 1000 NW 1st Avenue in Overtown.
