Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson joined School Board Member Dr. Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall on Saturday, September 25, 2011 for the "No More Broken Hearts Workshop," held at the Joseph Caleb Center, 5400 N.W. 22 Ave., Miami.  The workshop, organized by Dr. Bendross-Mindingall, aimed to raise awareness of the detrimental effects of domestic violence on the development of children and to a community as a whole.  Regrettably, the incidence of domestic violence in our society is high.  Here are some facts: 1. 85% of domestic violence victims are women; 2. Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police; and 3. Witnessing violence between one's parents or caretakers is the strongest risk factor of transmitting violent behavior from one generation to the next.
