Vice Chairwoman Edmonson joins MDPD to make Liberty City safer
Vice Chairwoman Audrey M. Edmonson once again joined Miami Dade Police Major Garry Jeanniton and members of his Miami-Dade Police North District staff on September 28, 2011 in walking door-to-door in the area of N.W. 54-57 Streets and N.W. 23-25 Avenues in Liberty City.
Vice Chairwoman Edmonson and Major Jeanniton knocked on homeowners' doors and talked with residents to gain knowledge of their concerns, suggestions and observations regarding crime and police response. Residents are given an informational brochure which lists helpful Miami-Dade Police phone numbers as well as tips on how to better protect their homes and to report suspicious activity anonymously.
"We need our residents to become better partners with our police department," Vice Chairwoman Edmonson said. "In turn, our police officers need to get to know the residents and their neighborhoods on a one-to-one basis. The residents know their street best, and police benefits from the information that the residents provide. These neighborhood walks are very helpful in fostering a closer relationship and better understanding between citizens and police."
