(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- On May 20, 2013, Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson, joined by Genaro "Chip" Iglesias, Chief of Staff to Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, and Lucia Davis-Raiford, Director of the Miami-Dade County Community Action and Human Services Dept., joined the "Walking One Stop" tour of the Liberty Square public housing complex. Commissioner Edmonson walked through Liberty Square knocking on residents' doors, offering them information and contacts to a variety of programs. The idea of Walking One Stop is to bring an umbrella of services directly to the people, particularly the elderly, who may not otherwise seek help. The South Florida Workforce Employment and Training Mobile Unit was also onsite to provide unemployed and underemployed residents with job services. The Miami-Dade Community Action and Human Services Department brought its “Services in Motion” mobile unit onsite to provide assistance with accessing child care / Head Start, elderly and disability services, youth services, utility bill assistance, and a host of other social and economic services. The Walking One Stop began with a short briefing at the City of Miami Police Model City Station, 1000 NW 62nd Street, Miami. Teams were then dispatched to Liberty Square.
