Miami FL - Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson delivered greetings at the Black Male Mental Health Conference sponsored by the Miami Dade Economic Advocacy Trust (MDEAT) on April 18, 2014 at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, 6161 N.W. 22 Ave., Miami. The goal of the event was to provide mental health professionals, community leaders and parents with best practices to help them produce positive outcomes in the lives of young black males.

“Mental health issues, especially in the African-American community, have carried a private and silent stigma,” Commissioner Edmonson said.  “But as a college trained, mental health professional, I know firsthand that mental health disorders and conditions are far from being a stigma. Mental health challenges do not discriminate based on race. This conversation is good and it is needed.”
