Miami, FL - Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson distributed hurricane preparedness kits to seniors in District 3 on May 29, 2014 as she has done for the past eight years.  Commissioner Edmonson, in collaboration with Hattie Willis, Executive Director, Communities United Inc.,  will have distributed 200 kits this year to help low-income seniors prepare and survive a hurricane before hurricane seasons starts on June 1, 2014. Among the items included in the kit were a flashlight, battery operated fan and clock, water, bleach, can opener, paper towels and plates.

"We understand that some seniors may not be able to go to the store and buy the necessary supplies," Commissioner Edmonson said. "We put together these kits so that they can be ready should a storm hit. Many of these seniors live alone and it's up to us to help them get ready and provide them with the supplies they need. If they have any questions, they can call the Miami-Dade County Answer Center at 311."
