Commissioner Edmonson hosts 11th annual Back to School Fun Day

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson hosted her 11th annual Back to School FUN DAY on Aug. 12 at Olinda Park.
With the help of volunteers and donating sponsors, Commissioner Edmonson gave children at the park and at District 3 schools 2,100 book bags filled with school supplies. In addition to bounce houses, music, raffles, hot dogs and refreshments for the children, the event also featured food distributions from Farm Share and Curley's House; free vision exams for adults and children by Bascom Palmer-UM and Lighthouse-Heiken Children's Vision Program; blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol testing by Jackson Memorial Health, Jesse Trice Community Health and other health concerns.
There were also free pet adoptions by Miami-Dade Animal Services, free SunPasses from MDX, hugs and games from Billy the Marlin and CrimeWatch's mascot McGruff, children's fingerprinting registration by the State Attorney's Office and participation from The Florida Health Council, History Miami, the Epilepsy Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, CareResource, The Miami Marlins, the Center for Family and Child Enrichment, CareerSource, the Miami-Dade Housing Finance Authority, the Florida Health Department, Staywell, Aetna and the Miami-Dade Consumer Protection Office, Miami-Dade Police-Northside, Miami-Dade Library Technobus, the Miami-Dade Elections, Parks, Community Action and Human Services, Public Housing and Cultural Affairs departments, Miami-Dade Fire Department and the Waste Management Robot.
