Commissioner Sally Heyman Helps Flamingo Land in Family Court

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
On Friday, "Barkett", an eight-foot, full wing-spanned, multi-colored flamingo will land on the 11th floor of Courthouse Centre, Miami-Dade's Family Court building. Thanks to the generous contribution made by Commissioner Sally Heyman and Miami resident and international artist Marcie Ziv, the big bird was created and designed by Ziv to share with the public. Through the efforts of Chief Judge Joe Farina, the Family Courthouse was selected for Barkett's inaugural landing.

The name "Barkett" was aptly chosen by Commissioner Heyman, in recognition of Miami Federal Judge Rosemary Barkett, who sat as the first female Chief Supreme Court Justice of Florida.

Marcie Ziv's vivid colored sculptured flamingo is the sibling to a flamingo creation that roosted last year in Coral Gables. Officially welcomed by administrative family court Judge Joel Brown, and Art in Public Places Board Members, Barkett will reside in Family Court thru December 2003, then venture off to other Miami-Dade justice facilities for public enjoyment.
