(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally A. Heyman, District 4, recently sponsored a Hurricane Strategy Meeting at the FIU - Kovens Conference Center to discuss Hurricane Preparedness in District 4. Representatives from the County's Emergency Operations Center, the 13 municipalities in District 4, UMSA, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Florida Power & Light, law enforcement, fire rescue, FEMA and other essential service providers participated.
"My office is committed to working closely with the District 4 municipalities and UMSA service providers to ensure a coordinated Hurricane response," said Commissioner Heyman. "Creating and maintaining a regional plan will help us better assess the needs in the district."
Working with others, Commissioner Heyman's office has created a network of contacts at each of the high-rise buildings, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, homeowners association's and houses of worship located throughout District 4 to better facilitate communication in the event of a major storm.
