Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally A. Heyman has been traveling throughout District 4 taking County Government into local schools and beyond.
Commissioner Heyman recently took students from Ruth K. Broad - Bay Harbor Islands Elementary on a field trip to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens. Students were given a tour of the gardens that included sculptures by artists Fernando Botero, Dale Chihuly and Roy Lichtenstein.
"I'm pleased to be able to introduce these students to the beauty of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens," said Commissioner Heyman. "Not only did they get to see nature at its best, but also experienced art in three very different forms created by world-renowned artists."
Commissioner Heyman also participated in National Library Week reading to children at the Sunny Isles Beach library. She read to the library's toddler story time group and visiting guests. As an added treat, she did the Hokie Pokie with the children. Additionally, Commissioner Heyman read at the Aventura Mall's Playground and visited ACES Awesome Readers Club.
"I especially enjoy spending time and reading to the children during these special occasions," said Commissioner Heyman. "It's fun to engage the kids and try to get them to develop a special interest in reading."
