(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- As part of a community service and preservation project, 175 Miami-Dade County students will join The Kids Ecology Corps and members of the Oleta River State Park staff in Go Green Day. On June 27th, students from The Roxy Theatre Group's performing arts summer camp will remove baby Australian Pines and several exotic invasive species of trees that are creating an imbalance in the Florida ecosystem. They will also plant native vegetation in order to help restore the areas of the park to be cleared.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for children to get involved with nature," said Commissioner Heyman. "This project will teach them the importance of caring for the environment while having a good time with their peers."
Members of Commissioner Heyman's district staff will join the students for this community service project at Oleta River State Park. Although this event is not open to the public, it provides members of the community the opportunity to learn about one of many community service programs in the area.
The Roxy Theatre Group is a non-profit organization devoted to providing performing arts education and cultural awareness as essential components to children.
