Oleta River State Park gets cleaned up during Baynanza 2011

Commissioner Sally Heyman’s office participates in Baynanza for 8th year

Commissioner Sally Heyman and staff members joined thousands of volunteers during the 2011 Baynanza Biscayne Bay Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 16, 2011.  This event has become a tradition for District 4 staff, making it the 8th consecutive year they have volunteered.

Baynanza, now in its 29th year, is a large-scale community event organized by the Miami-Dade Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) that focuses on cleaning trash and other debris from Biscayne Bay. This year, Commissioner Heyman's office, along with more than 7,500 volunteers picked up several tons of trash from the shoreline, including Oleta River State Park in the commissioner's district.

"The efforts of many truly make a difference for our Bay, our environment," said Commissioner Heyman. "I'm delighted this event gets bigger each year."
