Commissioner Sally A. Heyman teaches local women safety and security tips

Commissioner Sally A. Heyman was a guest speaker at a Women’s Exhibit presentation called “Street Safety for Today’s Woman: Be Prepared – Not Paranoid,” held on Thursday, May 24, 2012. The event, held at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens, was organized to help women make their lives safer without changing their lifestyles.

Commissioner Heyman spoke to a group of about 30 women on ways they can be safer in their day-to-day lives. She gave numerous tips about commuting, carrying purses, wearing jewelry, credit cards, identity theft, etc.

“Women are not more vulnerable to crime.  They should not be an easy opportunity to victimize,” said Commissioner Heyman, who is a Crime and Loss Prevention Specialist and is also the Vice Chair of Miami-Dade’s Public Safety and Healthcare Committee. “It’s about understanding  behaviors that can be easily changed and help women stay safer and have more control.”
