Commissioner Sally A. Heyman co-sponsors Florida Jewish History Month Exhibit
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally A. Heyman celebrated Florida Jewish History Month with an exhibit she co-sponsored, along with the Jewish Museum of South Florida (JMSF), at the Stephen P. Clark Center in Downtown Miami. Florida Jewish History month was initiated by the museum, which collects and preserves material evidence of the Jewish experience in the state since 1763.
The exhibit featured photographs and texts representing an overview of Jewish contributors of the making of the Lincoln Road Mall, “the Fifth Avenue of the South.” It was Carl Fishers’ vision of the bay-to-beach avenue with high end shops in the 1920’s. Lincoln Road later received a major facelift when Morris Lapidus was commissioned in 1960, which closed the street to vehicular traffic and transformed it to what it is today.
"The month of January is a celebration of the rich heritage and milestones our Jewish community has brought to the state and our own Miami-Dade community," said Commissioner Heyman.
