Citrus Grove Middle School receives landscaping and beautification donation

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Citrus Grove Middle School received a $ 5,000 donation from District 5 County services funds in November 2007 for landscaping and school beautification.

"Our students, teachers and parents are grateful for this valuable gift," said Ivette M. Martinez, assistant principal of Citrus Grove Middle School.   "The new landscaping has given the school a new face while students and teachers feel a new sense of pride stemming from the school's new exterior."

On November 3, 2007, the school principal, assistant principal, students, teachers, parents and community residents, along with the assistance of 250 volunteers from Hands on Miami, a non-profit volunteer service organization, transformed the front of the school with the painting of a new mural and with the planting of a variety of palms, semi-tropical plants and grass in some areas.   Mulch was also added to allow the plants to retain their humidity and to improve the maintenance and aesthetics.

"This donation is a small token for the teachers, students, parents and surrounding residents to enjoy their school as well as reflect the beauty and spirit of the community," said Chairman Bruno A. Barreiro.    "I hope that people see this as an example of how something so small can make a big change in the community."

Citrus Grove Middle School, located at 2153 NW 3 Street, has a total of 1,020 students enrolled in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
