Commissioner Sosa wants schoolchildren to learn about responsible pet ownership
When it comes to proper pet care, it’s never too young to learn. That’s why Miami-Dade County is looking to team up with the public school system to educate elementary schoolchildren in responsible pet ownership.
County Commission Commissioner Rebeca Sosa is sponsoring a resolution authorizing the County to help Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) develop their planned animal care education program this school year for students in grades 3 through 5. The move follows MDCPS’s request for such assistance from the County’s Animal Services Department.
County Commissioners urge state crackdown on unlicensed assisted living facilities
Alarmed by recent reports of large numbers of unlicensed assisted living facilities operating under deplorable conditions in South Florida and around the state, County Commissioners on Tuesday adopted a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Rebeca Sosa to urge the state to crack down on the disturbing phenomenon.
The resolution calls on the Governor, the Florida Legislature, the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration and other state agencies to work in close cooperation with local government law enforcement and code enforcement to quickly identify and take action against unlicensed assisted living facilities and group homes.
Ordinance urging for frequent unannounced inspections and monitoring of establishments that provide food services for seniors
Commissioner Sosa sponsored an ordinance urging the Florida Department of Health, the Miami-Dade County Health Department, and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs to take necessary measures to ensure that establishments throughout Miami-Dade County that cook, prepare, and/or package food that is served to seniors, through adult nutrition service programs, are subject to frequent unannounced inspections and monitoring. The ordinance will ensure that the services provided by these establishments are in accordance with Florida law, County ordinance, and minimum standards of hygiene. Commissioner Sosa aims to continue protecting and promoting the health, safety, and general welfare of the elderly Miami-Dade County residents, many of which who rely on the adult nutrition service programs and are homebound, frail or financially needy.Back to Top Page Last Edited: Tue Jan 20, 2015 2:16:34 PM
