(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- On Tuesday, February 10, 2004, County Commissioners Rebeca Sosa and Josè “Pepe” Diaz and representatives from the county’s Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM) will hold a press conference to announce new flood insurance discounts for residents throughout Miami-Dade County.  Thanks to a special incentive program awarded to the County for its outstanding flood protection activities by the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA), residents who live in special flood hazard areas will be given as much as a 25-percent discount on their flood insurance premiums. 

“This is a very special acknowledgement for our County and an excellent incentive for our residents, particularly those who live in flood-prone areas like Districts 6 and 12,” said Commissioner Sosa.  “Insurance premiums are costly enough, so getting the word out about this program should be communicated as effectively and efficiently as possible.”  Miami-Dade County residents who live in flood zones will receive a 25-percent reduction and those who live outside of the flood zones will receive a 10-percent discount.
