(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- On August 26, 2009, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa was appointed Chairperson of the County’s Performance and Efficiency Commission by Chairman Dennis C. Moss.
This past June, the County Commission approved a resolution authored by Chairman Moss to create the Performance and Efficiency Commission in order to identify inefficiencies in how departments run and to improve any processes for better service for residents. In her new role, Commissioner Sosa will work with a 19-member board consisting of Miami-Dade residents from various business, labor, educational groups, two other fellow commissioners selected by their peers, and one other member chosen by Mayor Carlos Alvarez. The board is expected to determine and recommend cost-effective measures and best business practices that will not only realize savings, but also deliver quality service.
“The creation of this board could not have come at a better time,” said Commissioner Sosa. “As my colleagues and I look for ways to balance the budget during this difficult economic time, it is clear that we need to look closely at how we can save more money to maintain services for residents. I am humbled and wish to express my gratitude to Chairman Moss for entrusting me with this task. I will continue evaluate ways that Miami-Dade can improve its services while being more cost-effective.”
The role of reviewing the County’s performance is not unfamiliar to Commissioner Sosa, who was a member of the Government Structure Task Force (GSTF).
