(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa welcomed the first in-bound delegation of business leaders from the Canary Islands, Spain during their visit to Miami before the Board of County Commission on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 as part of a trade mission. During the meeting, Commissioner Sosa congratulated the group on their leadership and enthusiasm in promoting mutual understanding and discussion among the Canary Islands and Miami-Dade County.
Commissioner Sosa, Chair of the Miami-Dade County /Tenerife, Canary Islands Sister Cities Committee, also highlighted her efforts in facilitating the expansion of economic development opportunities and the strengthening of cultural diversity between both communities. This mission is the first of several that will be visiting Miami-Dade County over the next few months contributing to our tourism and economic development.
Commissioner Sosa was joined during the meeting by Bill Talbert, President and CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Frank Nero, President and CEO of the Beacon Council, who commented on the importance of attracting these high quality trade missions. Commissioner Sosa presented Distinguished Visitors Certificates to each member of the delegation in recognition of their visit.
