Commissioner Rebeca Sosa gives former Polish President Lech Wałęsa Key to the County

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Commissioner Rebeca Sosa presented former Polish President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Lech Walesa with a Key to the County on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at a luncheon for the Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba, held at Freedom Tower. Walesa discussed how the United States and the rest of the world must recognize the need for political change in Cuba. Walesa, who advocated for human and workers' rights, became a prominent figure in Poland's struggle against communism in the 1980s.

"To have someone like Lech Walesa here, who has experienced the fall of communism in his own country, gives Cubans and Cuban-Americans in Miami hope that the same change can happen in Cuba," said Commissioner Sosa. "This is not just a Cuban problem. Any place where democracy and human rights are stifled should be brought to the attention of the world."
