(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Commissioner Rebeca Sosa and the Miami Dolphins are teaming up to help those suffering from the disease. On October 4, 2010, Mike Dee, CEO of the Miami Dolphins, and Mrs. Jeanette Sparano, wife of Head Coach Tony Sparano, presented Commissioner Sosa with a check in the amount of $15,000 for the American Cancer Society. This funding will be used to purchase mastectomy bras for breast cancer survivors. The special presentation took place at Sun Life Stadium prior to the Miami Dolphins taking on the New England Patriots during Monday Night Football. The match-up was also the official Breast Cancer Awareness game for the Miami Dolphins, in conjunction with the NFL’s national campaign.
"I commend the Miami Dolphins and the NFL on this wonderful fundraising initiative. Cancer affects more than just the patient; it also takes its toll on family and friends who must all rally together to stay strong while their loved one battles the disease," said Commissioner Sosa, a cancer survivor. "This donation will certainly help many patients in their cancer treatment and is a step in beating cancer once and for all.”
