Commissioner Rebeca Sosa opens application period for "Mom and Pop" Grants for District 6 Small Businesses

(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa is making "Mom and Pop" grants available to small business owners in her district. Applicants may be eligible to receive anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 to help their businesses grow and become more successful.  Those interested must attend one of two workshops being hosted by Commissioner Sosa to provide business owners with information on qualifications and application procedures. 

Applications will be available at the District 6 office from Tuesday, January 18 until January 24, 2011 as well as at the workshops and online at applications must be submitted in person to the District 6 office, 1000 S.W. 57 Avenue - Suite 201, between Tuesday, February 1 and Monday, February 7, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.

“This is a wonderful program for the small business owners of Miami-Dade County who are suffering through this down economy. I am sure that this will benefit them in acquiring much needed materials and equipment that will help them enhance and improve their business,” said Commissioner Sosa.

The Mom & Pop Small Business Grant Program was created in 1997 to provide financial and technical assistance to qualified small businesses and to stimulate a partnership between the public and private sectors and build financially stable communities in urban areas.  It is one of several economic development projects administered by the County's Office of Community Economic Development and Neighbors and Neighbors Association (NANA). This is the seventh year grant money is being made available to small businesses in Commissioner Sosa’s district. 

Qualification and application information will be available at the following workshops:

Thursday, January 20th, 2011– 6:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
West Miami Senior Center – 901 SW 62nd Avenue – West Miami, FL

Monday, January 24, 2011– 6:30 P.M. – 8:00 P.M.
Miami Springs Community Center – 1401 Westward Drive – Miami Springs, FL
