(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa and Library Director Raymond Santiago and the elected officials and residents of the City of Miami Springs invite held a ribbon-cutting ceremony inaugurating the re-opening of the Miami Springs Branch Library at 401 Westward Drive on Monday, March 28, 2011.
After extensive renovations, the Miami Springs Branch is now reopened and ready to serve! Renovations include the installation of a new roof, a new air conditioning system and a complete redesign of public areas. The branch has more open spaces and more windows to let in the natural light. Hurricane impact windows were installed and new ADA compliant restrooms have been completed. The parking lot has also been expanded and includes new lighting. Both the interior and exterior of the building has been painted and new terrazzo tile floors line the floors. There are eight public computer stations, 10 laptops available for checkout and self checkout machines. The branch is also equipped with a Reading Ready Early Literacy Center and contains interactive play-to-learn resources as well as designated areas for teens and adults.
“I am extremely happy, to finally be opening the new and too long awaited library branch in such a wonderful community like the City of Miami Springs. We thank the residents for their patience and understanding in this process that had to overcome many obstacles that delayed its opening,” says Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa. “We have taken special care to ensure that the library is family-friendly, and provides all the resources needed. Opening this branch is just one more way the Miami-Dade County Library System connects people with information, ideas and experiences to provide enjoyment, enrich lives and strengthen our community.”
The library is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday from 9:30 am – 6 pm; Tuesday from 11:30 am – 8 pm and is closed on Friday and Sunday. For more information, call 305.805.3811.
