Commissioner Rebeca Sosa celebrates the groundbreaking of the Palm Center Multi-Purpose Building Facility in the City of Hialeah

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebeca Sosa joined City of Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina, members of the Hialeah City Council and the residents of Hialeah at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Palm Center affordable housing, multipurpose facility, and parking garage on Monday, May 9th, 2011. Commissioner Sosa donated $6.5 million of Building Better Communities General Obligation Bonds Fund towards the new multi-purpose building facility.

"Together we are transforming vacant land into attractive new homes that the community can feel proud of," stated Commissioner Sosa.  "We are proud to be part of this important project that will bring critically-needed affordable housing to seniors in Miami-Dade County.  The project reinforces the demand for Low and Moderate Income Housing Funds that support seniors, and low income residents, which in turn help to build local economies."

Phase One of the Palm Center project, located at the corner of Palm Avenue and Okeechobee Road, consists of a 383 space parking garage. Once the parking garage is completed, phase two of the construction project will begin. It will consist of a 72 unit affordable housing building. The project is being built by the City of Hialeah, in partnership with Miami-Dade County. The parking garage is expected to be completed by September 2011.
