Commissioner Rebeca Sosa’s Statement on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Celebrity Cruises deal to keep its headquarters at the Port of Miami

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
I am pleased to announce that our efforts to maintain the presence of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL) and Celebrity Cruises in Miami-Dade County have proven successful. As the Chair of the Miami-Dade County Economic Development Committee and on behalf of our residents and the Board of County Commissioners, I want to extend our deepest appreciation to Mr. Adam Goldstein, President of Royal Caribbean International, and Dan Hanrahan, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, for once again choosing Miami-Dade County as the company's home base and corporate headquarters. We are honored and privileged to have you here!

This important milestone in our community could not have been accomplished if it were not for the diligent work of the Port of Miami Director, Bill Johnson, and his executive team. I also want to thank Board of County Commission Chairman Joe Martinez, for entrusting me as Chair of the Economic Development Committee, a position that has allowed me to work towards strengthening economic ties in our community and joining forces with the numerous economic development, trade and tourism organizations that lent their efforts and never gave up.

The success of the Port of Miami will pay dividends not only for Miami-Dade County, but also throughout the State of Florida and the nation for decades to come. The well being of the Port of Miami will secure the creation of jobs and our Port will remain competitive versus other ports around the world.
