Commissioner Rebeca Sosa presented with a Congressional Record Certificate by U.S. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart
Last week, U.S. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart presented Commissioner Rebeca Sosa with a Congressional Record Certificate. This prestigious document contains a transcript of the speech Congressman Diaz-Balart made on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives during Women’s History Month. During the ceremony, Congressman Diaz-Balart affirmed that his intention was to confer an honor that would be a lasting testament to the accomplishments of women, as it would be recorded for all posterity in the archives of the U.S. House of Representatives. He told those assembled that his admiration of Commissioner Sosa’s dedication and commitment to the residents of Miami-Dade County inspired him to speak of her career to his colleagues at the House of Representatives. The ceremony took place at the City of West Miami Senior Center during its yearly Mother’s Day Celebration on Friday, May 11, 2012.
“I would like to thank Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart for bestowing upon me the great honor of entering me into the United States Congressional Records. I was moved beyond words by this most gracious act. I felt both humbled and privileged to receive this distinction from such an esteemed colleague. Without question I consider this day to be among the most moving and exhilarating of my professional and personal life,” stated Commissioner Sosa.
U.S. Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart chose the City of West Miami as the setting for the ceremony since this city is near and dear to Commissioner Sosa’s heart; this is where she started her political career and where she and her family have been residents for many decades. Among those present was City of West Miami Mayor, Eduardo H. Muhiña, who said, “As Mayor of the City of West Miami, I am honored and privileged to have participated with a select group of elected officials and members of the community to witness history in the making. Our esteemed Miami-Dade County District Six Commissioner, the Honorable Rebeca Sosa, received a distinguished and meritorious congressional mention presented by Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart that will forever appear in the congressional archives. West Miami is very fortunate to have had a mentor that has paved the way for new generations of leadership all in the name of good government!”
